TOTAL LIGHTING CONTROLS
WIRELESS WIRED COMBINED
Welcome to Rako.

THE START – WIRELESS MODULES
In 2002 Rako was formed to produce a revolutionary wireless lighting control system that could be retro-fitted into a domestic wiring scenario. Rako’s innovative ideas and continuous product development allowed Rako to grow to become the market leader in the wireless field.

OUR HISTORY – INTRODUCTION OF RAK-4 STACKING SYSTEM
Initially the dimmer packs were all individual modules aimed at the retro-fit market, designed to be fitted in ceilings and back-boxes. As dealers and installers gained confidence with the system they undertook larger and larger projects, often where dedicated cabling was being installed. Where the cabling was centralised a racked solution to the dimmers would provide a neater installation than many (sometimes a hundred or more!) modules fixed to the same wall and in recognition of this Rako introduced its RAK-4 dimmer packs. Still with wireless connection to the control panels the RAK-4 system took Rako further into the large project market.

Many projects that were initially specified as centralised systems at the planning stage became a mix of RAKs and the original modules with which the RAKs were seamlessly compatible. With the mix being driven by unforeseen site circumstances, last minute extras, forgotten cables and clients’ whims etc. the true benefit of being able to deliver a ‘hybrid’ system really began to show.

THE WAY FORWARD – COMBINED NETWORKS
Wireless control has huge benefits and can make the installation of a lighting control system feasible in projects where the demands of specialist and dedicated cabling would otherwise be prohibitive. There are however, many projects where dedicated cabling is being installed and a wired solution can provide some features difficult to achieve with a wireless network, such as permanently powered tell-back LEDs, true status feedback and ultimately sheer distance of possible communication. Rako’s launch of a wired alternative gives an installation solution for all projects but by making the wired and wireless options totally compatible the real and important benefits of the ‘combined’ solution can be achieved.

Rako now has a control network that can be linked by either data cable or wireless connection or a combination of the two. Fixed installations can be easily added to or changed without major re-cabling, allowing the vagaries and uncertainties of a project to be accommodated with the minimum of trouble.

Rako now operates from its offices in Rochester where regular dealer training courses are held. All products are manufactured at Rako’s factory in Sittingbourne, Kent, enabling a close control of lead-times and quality.

Put simply, Rako has no limits.
